It is now official. The expenditure of MLAs in the general elections of 2014 in Andhra Pradesh was a whopping Rs.15 crore for each seat. This was confirmed by the Chief Election Commissioner Brahma who's wondering if MLAs spent 15 crores for elections then how much did MPs spend.

Suggesting that a "strong law" regarding political funding is needed for India, Brahma wondered from where the money comes from and where does it go. He clarified that though money cannot guarantee votes, the one who can spend more has an upper hand. Referring to the response of political parties on the issue of money power, Brahma said privately most political leaders have agreed that money power is bad and also that its use should be curbed.

AP has touched several milestones in electioneering in 2014. It was the state which recorded seizure of over 55 crore, almost 56% of the cash and jewelry seized all over the country. It also recorded highest seizure of liquor also in the same period. We all know that a YSRC candidate of Rayalaseema had stashed liquor bottles in a village tank allegedly for distribution on polling day.
