Tirupati: The issue of killing of red sanders woodcutters in Seshachalam forests on Tuesday continued to rock Tamil Nadu and the protesters turned their ire on Heritage Fresh supermarket owned by the family members of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

According to the police, two men came on a motorcycle to the Mylapore branch of Heritage Fresh around noon and entered into the supermarket. About 10 staff members and some customers were present when the assailants gained entry in the store. The two-member gang raised slogans against the brutal killings of woodcutters and went on a rampage. They first damaged the signboard by hurling stones.

Later, they barged into the outlet and damaged the cash register, computers and shelves. They also broke glasses and damaged vegetables, fruits and other items at the outlet. Later, they asked the local children to ransack the store. The Mylapore cops who detained two persons claimed that they were members of the Tamizhar Ezhuchi Iyakkam. Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu have witnessed several incidents of attack on the outlets of Andhra-based establishments since Tuesday in strong retaliation to the brutal killings of Tamils by AP security forces.

Meanwhile, around 250 persons were reportedly taken into custody by Chennai police in connection with various agitations across the city. Andhra Banks in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams regional information centre-cum-temple near T Nagar in Chennai bore the brunt of the protests on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a masked gang of around 18 persons ransacked a toll plaza, run by a Hyderabad-based firm near Thuvakudi in Trichy. NTK cadre in Cuddalore burnt the effigy of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and 25 of them were arrested. In Tuticorin, advocates burnt the portraits of AP CM and later created panic on the Andhra Bank premises as they were taken into custody after they had burnt down a doormat near the bank.
