Hyderabad: RTC employees will go on an indefinite strike from May 6 as the talks between the workers and the management failed. The employees have been demanding 43 per cent fitment on par with State government employees. Speaking to media after the talks, the General Secretary of Employees Union, K Padmakar, and TMU General Secretary E Ashwatthama Reddy said they had given a notice of strike on April 2, demanding 43 per cent fitment.

They said, “Pay revision is due from April 1, 2014. Despite several rounds of talks with the management on this issue, the management has not accepted our demand. Hence we have no option but to go on indefinite strike.” The EU and the TMU leaders called upon the leaders of AP National Mazdoor Union (NMU) to extend support to the proposed strike and refrain from demanding immediate elections to RTC Unions.

According to them, elections will be a hindrance in their fight for pay revision. The unions plan to hold a series of preparatory rallies from Friday at all depots and workshops to persuade all workers to join the strike. However, RTC officials are hopeful of a truce, as the unions will go on strike only if the fitment issue is not settled by April 30 and there is a leeway of 8 days.
