Foundation stone to be laid next week

All hurdles have been cleared for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) proposed to come up near Mangalagiri in the capital region. If everything goes as planned, the State government would lay foundation stone for the medical institution by the end of next week.

The AIIMS would have a 960-bedded hospital with 600 MBBS and 360 nursing seats. The institute was proposed to come up at a cost of Rs 1500 crore, of which the Central government had sanctioned Rs 200 crore in the budget. The State government had handed over the TB Sanatorium midst the hills for construction of the institution after a surveying the site during February and holding interactions with the minister for health Dr Kamineni Srinivasa Rao.

There have been several proposals for the multispecialty hospital here and the government in the undivided State worked out several proposals. However, none of the proposals saw light till the State was bifurcated.
