Not just milk and fruit juice, from July even liquor even liquor will be available in tetra packs in Andhra Pradesh where liquor in 90ml and 180ml tetra packs will be introduced as per the suggestions by the Excise Department. The suggestion made by the Excise department has come in wake of Telangana State proposal to introduce affordable liquor in the MRP slab of Rs 30 to Rs 40.

As per the liquor rates, six districts of AP bordering Telangana will be affected if the AP government does not introduce small quantity liquor packs, stated the Excise officials. A senior official in the excise department said that people who cannot afford to buy quarter or half bottles can purchase small quantity liquor tetra packs if the AP government introduces the new liquor policy in rural areas along with the increase in sales of liquor and increase in excise revenue in the state.

The new liquor policy is expected to be finalized by the AP cabinet scheduled for Tuesday. Currently, various brands of liquor with 750 ml (full bottle), 375 ml (half bottle) and 180 ml (quarter bottle) are available but the excise department suggested the tetra packs for liquor for only local brands like Bagpiper, Old Monk, Haywards, etc. However, in villages, many cannot afford to buy large quantities of liquor but if made available in small quantity, the sales of liquor will increase in rural areas.
