Noted cardiologist, Dr P Ramesh from Ramesh Hospitals emphasised on the need for awareness of cardiac ailments, especially in rural areas. Speaking on ‘World Heart Day’ on Tuesday, he said, “Know the risk of your heart with simple medical tests. Special focus should be made on preventive cardiac ailments.
“The number of deaths due to cardiac failure is increasing by day due to lack of awareness among people,” he said. The problem is more among people in rural areas where there are no medical facilities during ‘Golden hour’ treatment period after heart stroke.
The cardiologist said that medical facilities should be extended to rural areas. He said that the Ramesh hospital set up 11 telemedicine centres in six districts and planning to set up 50 centres in coming years.
Speaking on the facilities, he said, “After the state bifurcation there is a need to improve medical facilities in the state. As part of awareness programme over 30,000 people including students were trained in basic life supporting systems to save the lives of people immediately after heart attack.”
He said that the Ramesh Hospitals introduced pediatric cardiology unit for the first time in the state with experts from several parts of the country and advanced cardiac MRI to identify the blocks in heart vessels in advance to prevent heart ailments. The cardiologist said that people can distance themselves from heart ailments through regular exercises; yoga and meditation and simple checkups.
