Vijayawada: With the announcement of state and national committees, the Telugu Desam Party now goes national and in a well-calculated move party president N Chandrababu Naidu has catapulted his son Nara Lokesh into centre stage by appointing him as national general secretary besides taking him into the party’s all-powerful politburo.
Though party senior leader Revuri Prakash Reddy and Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao were also made national general secretaries along with Lokesh, insiders say that for all practical purposes, Lokesh would be managing the organizational matters of the TDP till 2019 elections when he would enter electoral politics.
The new team would take oath on October 4 when Naidu is likely to announce the job chart of each of the office bearers. Replying to a question, Naidu said that Lokesh had proved himself to be a dedicated party worker by enrolling more members into the party.
He claimed that the party had earned over Rs 53 crore from the membership fee. He further claimed that Lokesh was taking care of the welfare of the party workers and thus had become eligible to become the party’s politburo member.
