Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today reviewed the arrangements for the October 22 foundation stone-laying ceremony of the state's new capital city Amaravati, an event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present.

He took stock of the arrangements with officials at his camp office in Vijayawada. According to an official press release, Mr Naidu asked officials to organise festival-like celebrations ahead of the main event falling on Dusshera.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people to carry 'motivation torches' to the proposed capital from their native places. These torches will be collected at a function at Nagarjuna University, Guntur on October 21, it said. Mr Naidu advised people to carry soil from all Andhra Pradesh villages in small pots to be used at the foundation-laying ceremony.

Holy water collected from rivers across the country will be sprinkled at the site. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to design a 'capital logo', the release added.
