Guntur: In the early hours of Tuesday, exactly at 4.11 am, a posse of policemen woke up Y S Jaganmohan Reddy who was sleeping on the Deeksha dais under the cover of mosquito net and advised him to call off his fast as his health has deteriorated.

However, an adamant Jaganmohan Reddy politely refused saying that the people's cause was more important than his own life.

The police in a swift operation lost no time and forcibly put him on a stretcher while the supporters of Jagan were protesting. Hundreds of policemen took positions around the fasting leader while lathi-wielding cops scared the mob and scattered them.

Meanwhile, he was whisked away by the security police to the GGH. The entire operation took just 20 minutes and by 4.30 am the YSRCP president was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) of GGH where the doctors under police security administered fluids to the fasting leader, whose fast had entered the seventh day.
