A public awareness programme was organized at the regional Road Transport Authority office here on Tuesday to promote the message of compulsory helmets for motorists which will be enforced from November 12th. RTO M Purendra sensitized the visitors of the office on the need for wearing helmets while riding vehicles on roads. In a release to the media, it is said that 70 per cent of the motorists in the city have worn helmets on the first day of enforcement on November 1st.

Traffic Police have booked more than 1000 motorists on a single day for not wearing one. As a first time violation, a penalty of Rs 100 was imposed on the defaulters, but the consequences would be severe if they were found repeating the offense, said Purendra. He also said that the department would carry out special inspections and frequent checking on the two wheeler motorists, in collaboration with the traffic police department. RTA Staff M Raja Babu, Paulraj, V Srinivas and others were present during the programme.
