Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh assured to set up agricultural and allied sector research institutes in the State and said the Centre would extend cooperation to the Andhra Pradesh government in its mission to develop agriculture sector. Singh met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM camp office in here after laying foundation for Agricultural University in Guntur district on Monday.

Vijayawada: Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh assured to set up agricultural and allied sector research institutes in the State and said the Centre would extend cooperation to the Andhra Pradesh government in its mission to develop agriculture sector. Singh met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at CM camp office in here after laying foundation for Agricultural University in Guntur district on Monday.
Praising the initiatives of the State government to develop agriculture sector, the Union Minister promised help to develop micro-irrigation in the State. When Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that they were making efforts to beat Madhya Pradesh in adopting modern farming methods, the Union Minister assured to extend necessary assistance in this regard. The CM said AP stood first in using soil health cards and marine exports.
Radha Mohan Singh while announcing the sanction of National Breed Bank for development of fisheries for Andhra Pradesh, said the breed bank could be set up at any one of the 50 seed farms in the State. “A scientific team will be sent to the State for the purpose,” he added. The Union Minister also sanctioned Breeder Multipication Centre for development of shrimp culture in the State and said the Central Institute of Fisheries education regional centre at Kakinada would be developed.
In addition, Radha Mohan Singh agreed to set up centre for brackish water aquaculture regional centre in the State and Central Institute of Fresh Water Aquaculture at regional centre in Penamaluru near Vijayawada.
The Central minister announced Central Rice Research Institute’s sub-centre for Srikakulam district and promised to consider the plea for Indian Institute of Rice Research Centre in West Godavari district.
He responded positively when the Chief Minister appealed for implementation of Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana scheme in the State. The Central government sanctions Rs 30,000 per acre for three years under the scheme.
On the Chief Minister’s request for implementation of micro-irrigation as national mission, the Union minister said that he would discuss the issue with the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister explained to the union minister the steps being taken by the State government to overcome the drought conditions in the State. When he asked the Union minister to solve the oil palm crisis, the Singh promised that the Centre would come to the rescue of oil palm farmers. Naidu said the State government is ready to bear 50 per cent cost if the Central government announced support price for oil palm.
Union minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju, AP Minister for Agriculture Pattipati Pulla Rao, Government Advisor (Communications) Dr Parakala Prabhakar, principal secretary of agriculture Vijaykumar, principal secretary of Animal Husbandry Manmohan Singh other officials were present at the meeting.
