Include Vaddera, Mudaliar castes in OBCs: BC leaders

Chittoor: The BC leaders under the leadership of National Backward Classes Welfare Association President R Krishnaiah have staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding inclusion of Vaddera and Mudaliar castes in OBC category, according to B Suresh, secretary of AP State BC Welfare Association.

India here on Tuesday, Suresh said that the BC leaders from the state have staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in order to draw attention of the Central government to their demands. He said that the Delhi police have resorted to lathi-charge when the BC leaders tried to march towards Parliament from the Jantar Mantar.

Krishnaiah gave ‘Chalo Delhi’ call in order to achieve their demands.

Suresh said that the Central government should include Vaddera and Mudaliar castes in OBC list as the two castes were being neglected from several years. He said that people from Vaddera community are playing vital role in construction of houses.

He said that there was no minimum security for Vaddera community people. He added that Mudaliar caste is listed in BC category in Tamil Nadu where as it is in OC category in AP. He said that Krishnaiah had already explained the issue to the Chief Minister to include the two neglected castes in OBC list, who has responded positively.

Suresh, who played an active role in organising the dharna at Jantar Mantar, has made it clear that the agitation would be intensified in AP until the Central government fulfils their demands. Former Municipal Chairman Bhaskar, District BC leaders Ekambaram, Dharma Raju, Salmon and others were present.
