Call to curb PNDT Act violations

A one-day sensitisation workshop was organised at East Godavari District Colletorate here on Saturday, on the Pre-conception and Pre- natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PC and PNDT Act) under the aegis of District Medical and Health department for judicial and executive officers.
A one-day sensitisation workshop was organised at East Godavari District Colletorate here on Saturday, on the Pre-conception and Pre- natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PC and PNDT Act) under the aegis of District Medical and Health department for judicial and executive officers.Stressing the need for more effective implementation of the Act, professor at Raya Medical College and Kakinada Government General Hospital Dr Alfa V P Tej gave a PowerPoint presentation by touching various aspects involved. She said that the National Health Mission (NHM) too suggested for measures to curb sex determination tests. She felt that despite all the measures, some doctors had still been violating this Act and conducting the gender tests. She stressed the need for strict vigil on this activity at all levels.
Participating in the workshop, District Collector H Arum Kumar directed the medical and health department authorities to implement the PC and PNDT Act in accordance with law and take stringent act against the erring doctors and diagnostic centres. The Collector asked the medical authorities to monitor and keep constant vigil on the working of 21 government and 272 private scanning centres in the district
DMHO Dr Uma Sundari revealed the measures being implemented by the department. She also disclosed that the slogan of ‘Beti Bachavo and Beti Padavo’ (save girl child and provide education to girl child) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being given more propagation among masses. RMC professor of gynecology Rajyalakshmi, representatives of medical and health institutes and others participated.
