He took part in the Christmas celebrations organised by the district administration.
Addressing a well-attended meeting of bishops, pastors and leaders across the State, Naidu observed that Christmas is the only festival celebrated by all countries in the world.
“The teachings of Christ were unique. He asked his followers to forgive those who wronged them and to love one's neighbour as one would love himself. Forgiveness was his prime teaching. His followers and believers implemented them in letter and spirit,” he said.
Naidu promised to return to the same venue next year and inaugurate the Christian Bhavan, which would be a nerve centre for Christian prayers and activities. He said that the scheme to visit Jerusalem, the sacred land for Christians has been revived and Rs 25,000 will be given to each pilgrim, who would go to Jerusalem.
Praising Christian missionaries for their service to humanity, the Chief Minister vowed to follow the footsteps of Jesus by serving the poor in the State. He also promised to safeguard communal harmony and the religious freedom of all communities. He appealed to the missionaries to work with the government to eradicate poverty.
He thanked the pastors and bishops, who prayed for his well being and that of his government. He expressed the hope that with the blessings of Jesus Christ, he can steer the State into the path of progress and development.
The Chief Minister said that a cabinet sub-committee will soon be constituted to get recommendations on ways and means of protecting Christian properties. Earlier Bible Mission secretary Samuel Kiran delivered a Christmas message stating that Christ was born to die for the redemption of mankind. Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu said that TDP government was the first to celebrate Christmas officially.
In an indirect reference to YS Rajasekhara Reddy's family, he said that those who claimed to be Christians had not done anything for the community.
Naidu felicitated eminent Christian activists like B Kantha Ravikiran, Ch Vincent Paul, S Solomon Raju, Hanoch Mary, P Laban Prabhudas, D.Anand Raju and N Soumya.
