The DSP told the media that specific orders regarding the enforcement of the Act have been issued to all town police stations. He warned of stringent action if people misbehaved in drunken state while celebrating the New Year.
Riders of bikes causing nuisance on roads after removing silencers would be dealt with and their vehicles would be seized. He clarified that police were not against New Year celebrations.
While reviewing the 2015 crime cases and recoveries, the DSP stated that 3,000 litres of illicit liquor was seized by the Bandi Atmakur, Panyam and Mahanandi police.
Besides, thousands of litres of liquor was destroyed, after 140 cases were registered and 120 persons arrested. As many as 130 persons involved in Matka gambling were arrested after registering 68 cases. An amount of Rs 7,34,140 was seized from them.
Four hundred and ninety gamblers were arrested after registering 270 cases and Rs 9,17,400 confiscated from them. To ensure peace in villages, 530 persons have been bound over to the Tahsildars after registration of 154 cases.
The DSP said 62,560 traffic violation cases were registered and Rs 72,28,450 realised as penal amount. As many as 730 drunk-drive cases were registered.
During February-September, 16 persons were arrested after seizing 900 gm of ganja and 450 gm of brown sugar, both worth Rs 20 lakh.
