The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to go for open auction sand mining while the earlier plan was to allot sand mining to DWCRA self-help groups apart from coming up with a new sand policy.

The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting held in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Addressing the media, Information and Public Relations Minister P Raghunatha Reddy informed that everyone including DWCRA groups could participate in the open auction of sand mining.

A Cabinet sub-committee is to be constituted in order to conclude the parameters for price and other procedures of the new policy. The Minister added that the government would fix the price per unit and allot the bids to persons or groups offering the highest premium to government excluding the expenditure like loading, unloading and labour costs.
