Visakhapatnam: Minister for Human Resource Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao informed that the government has been giving priority for providing infrastructure at Andhra University to boost its international image. After laying the foundation stone for the Lecture Hall Complex at the Department of Civil Engineering of Andhra University College of Engineering (A) here on Thursday, he said that he was very happy that the department came forward to construct the complex with its own funds.

Complimenting the department teachers and students, he asked to see that the Lecture Hall Complex be built with all amenities and the university will bear the additional cost over and above the estimated cost of the complex. Vice-Chancellor Prof Raju said that it was planned to build four modern class rooms with an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh in such a way that each classroom accommodates 120 students. Earlier, the Minister told reporters that the State Vice-Chancellors’ meet will be conducted at the Andhra University on January 11 to take stock of strengthening the government universities in the wake of introduction of Private Universities Bill in the State Assembly. He informed that another important issue of filling up of 1000 vacant teaching posts will also be discussed to arrive at a decision whether the process should be centralised or university-wise.

“We will also discuss how to utilise Rs 383 crore to be given by the State government for infrastructure development, including
installation of CCTV cameras, biometric system, prohibition on ragging and other new courses in universities”, he added. Later, the Vice Chancellor Prof G S N Raju opened the office of Andhra Pradesh State Level Eligibility Test (APSLET) at the AU online counseling centre as the government has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the APSLET to AU. University Rector Prof EA Narayana, Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao, APSLET Member Secretary Prof K Srinivasa Rao, Principals Prof Ch V Ramachandra Murty, Prof C V Raman, Prof M Sundar Rao and ICET Convener Prof K Ramamohan Rao were present.
