Sankranti celebrations kick off on a grand note

Pomp and fervour were witnessed at the Sankranthi celebrations here on Wednesday. Competitions in rangoli and cooking were held for the women. Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy and District Collector Challa Vijayamohan, along with his wife Satya Rekha, visited the venue and encouraged the participants.
Kurnool: Pomp and fervour were witnessed at the Sankranthi celebrations here on Wednesday. Competitions in rangoli and cooking were held for the women. Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy and District Collector Challa Vijayamohan, along with his wife Satya Rekha, visited the venue and encouraged the participants. The Collector said that these competitions would strengthen the relationships among people and everyone would be peaceful and prosperous.
The competitions were organised at Damodaram Sanjeevaiah High School. Women irrespective of caste, creed and religion took part in the competitions.
The Collector went round the venue and interacted with participants.MLA SV Mohan Reddy praised the Collector for organising the festivities on par with Godavari districts. He thanked the district machinery for conducting the fete on a grand scale.
A district-level sports meet was also organised as part of the celebrations at the outdoor stadium in the city. Vijayamohan and SV Mohanreddy inaugurated kabaddi and kho-kho competitions.
The Collector said sports kits would be distributed to all schools in the district before the end of this month. He said physical fitness was also equally important and all boys and girls must utilise the opportunity. The MLA assured the students that he would raise the issue of five per cent reservation for sports persons in the Assembly.
