Vijayawada: A Pulse Polio awareness rally was flagged off by Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner G Veerapandiyan and Deputy Mayor Gogula Venkataramana Rao at Swarajya Maidan here on Saturday. The awareness rally concluded at Thummalapalli Kalakshetram near Bus Station via M G Road.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Veerapandiyan said that they have made elaborate arrangements to ensure that every child under the age of five years is administered polio vaccine in the city on Sunday. About 382 centres across 59 divisions were set up with 30 transit centers and 10 mobile teams to reach out to the infants.

“We have identified 1, 36,022 infants and toddlers who fall under the category and require dosage of the polio drops. Parents of toddlers should visit their nearest centre to get the vaccine administered for the bright future of their children,” he added. Assistant medical officers of VMC Iqbal Hussain, Babu Srinivas, Rama Koteswara Rao, Health Educator Kanthi Kumari, Health visitors, medical officers and other volunteers were present.
