Eluru: All is set for the Pulse Polio first phase in West Godavari district. The Pulse Polio will be held from January 17 to 19 in the district, according to District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Shyamala Gowry.

Talking to newsmen at District Medical and Health Office here on Saturday, the DMHO said 5.2 lakh vaccines have been kept ready for the Pulse Polio.

She said the officials identified 3,99,264 children below five years of age in the district. The polio vaccine would be administered to these children. All arrangements have been made for the vaccination, she said.

Out of the total children, 2,92,828 children are in rural areas and 89,011 are in urban areas. She said for rural areas, about 2,390 centres have been set up to administer the vaccines. As many as 417 centres in the urban areas were set up. A total 302 centres for 17,425 children in tribal areas have been arranged exclusively, she said. The DMHO said the polio vaccination would also be administered in bus stands, railway stations, market centres and other main areas.

She said the vaccination would be conducted on January 17 from morning to evening. About 13,184 personnel are being deployed to extend services in the Pulse Polio centres. District Immunisation Officer Mohan Krishna participated in the conference.
