Villages come alive this festive season with hordes of visitors
Rural Andhra Pradesh came alive during the past five days when Telugus from across the world descended on the countryside in all districts, particularly in Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari, and Visakhapatnam districts to reunite with their families this festive season.

The reunions for many conjured up the memories of good old days when they had their meals together with families. Now, despite the changing life style of people and the rat race to settle abroad and in metro cities, the quest among scattered families to relive those timeless moments were particularly palpable among several scattered families.
Mahesh, a lawyer who settled in Mumbai speaking to 'The Hans India' says that he is happy to come back to his native village Yadlapadu where 200 relatives are meeting including 50 children. “After returning to my village after a long time, and this reunion with friends and relatives is something, I will cherish for many years to come,” he shares.
According to estimates about 8 lakh people descended on the villages in Guntur and Krishna districts. RTC and Private Bus operators say that East and West Godavari districts top the list. Sources in railways and among transport operators expect that more than eight lakh people may have come to twin Godavari districts during this festive season.
According to bus operators both private and government, about 3,000 special buses were operated from Hyderabad alone during the past three days and at least 10 lakh people reportedly travelled from Hyderabad by all means of transport to the villages of Andhra Pradesh.
Software engineer Raguram, who haisl fromTenali, says that he was overwhelmed with joy and excitement of meeting his relatives and friends and added that he would cherish memories of reunion with his close relations and will look forward for such a reunion every year.
An influx of more than 20 lakh people many of whom settled in Mumbai, Benguluru, Chennai and Hyderabad made Sankranti the most glamorous festival apart from the excitement of watching cockfights and colorful traditions coming alive.
