Top revenue official arrested for illegal assets

Vijayawada: ACB sleuths on Tuesday arrested the superintendent officer working at the office of DIG, Stamps and Registrations department on the charges of possessing disproportionate assets. He was taken into custody at his home at Srinivasa Nagar Bank Colony in the city.

The officer of the rank of sub-registrar, P Venu Venkata Durga Prasad, had illegally earned immovable property worth Rs 3.39 crore as per the government rate. In the current open market the property would be easily more than Rs. 15 crore worth. ACB DSP V Gopala Krishna, who raided the house after getting a tip-off, found that the accused used his sister and brother-in-law as Benami to safeguard his property.

His sister A Venkata Lakshmi and her husband A Balasatya Ramprasad, a document writer, have property worth Rs 2.59 crore. Gopala Krishna added that Ramprasad possessed a white ration card, and on the contrary has many assets. He has lands, plots, and houses at every place he had worked earlier.

The superintendent has a house in Bank Colony, two flats in Barathi Nagar, a house site in Currency Nagar, four house plots in One town and Power Pete of Eluru town, 10 acres land in Chataparru near Eluru all worth over Rs 15 crore in the open market, he added.
