Vijayawada: CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna on Thursday demanded an explanation from Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on how the Central Government would complete Polavaram multipurpose project by 2019 through allocating meager funds.

In a press release here on Thursday, Ramakrishna recalled the promise made by the Union government that the Polavaram project would be completed by 2019 and questioned how Rs 100 crore released by Modi-led government in the current fiscal would help in expediting the project. “If they keep releasing Rs 100 crore every year, the project won’t be completed even in 100 years,” he said.

Ramakrishna also lambasted Venkaiah Naidu for hoodwinking the people that the NDA government was helping the State even more than it promised. “All the promises made in the Parliament are not spoken about. Out of the Rs 14,600 crore annual financial deficit of our State, the Centre has sanctioned only Rs 2,303 crore and conveniently forgot the remaining,” he observed.

The CPI leader said that there was no assurance from the Centre about the accordance of special category status to AP even after 20 months of NDA’s rule. “It is high time that the Central government kept all its promises and those made in the AP Reorganization Act,” he said.
