Visakhapatnam: Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu appealed to vehicle users to maintain road discipline while launching the Road Safety Week celebrations here on Friday.

The week-long celebrations will be held up to January 28. The Minister asked those riding two-wheelers to wear helmets, while those driving cars should wear seat belts for their safety and asked the officials to campaign on road safety during the week.

Later, Collector N Yuvaraj released pamphlets and wall posters on Road Safety Week brought out by the transport department at the Collectorate.

Deputy Transport Commissioner S Venkateswara Rao, Joint Collector J Nivas and Motor Vehicle Inspectors participated.

At another meeting held here on road safety under the aegis of India Youth For Society (IYFS) at Sri Chaitanya School, Ramnagar, Road Transport Officer Khan, Motor Vehicle Inspectors R Srinivasa Rao and Satyam Naidu gave valuable tips on road safety to children.

Former vice-president of All India SBI Employees’ Union JP Sarma felt that road discipline is equally important to the school discipline, while the school Principal Harikrishna Reddy advised the children to follow ‘rule of the road’ strictly for free and smooth of traffic flow.
