Eluru: The West Godavari district bandh demanding Centre to take action against in Rohith Vemula’s suicide case was largely peaceful.

The CPI, CPM and Dalit Associations’ Joint Action Committee led the bandh in various parts of the district on Saturday. In Eluru, all shops and establishments remained closed for the day.

RTC bus services were affected due to the bandh. The Dalit associations staged a protest in front of Eluru Bus depot in the early hours.

However, the buses started playing after 10 am. In one town, the bullion market closed for the day and no hotel was opened. Barring occasional verbal altercation, the bandh was incident free.

The protestors took out a bike rally and staged road blockade at the bus stand after paying homage to statue of Dr B R Ambedkar.
