The students of SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala have had a deep insight into how food can be preserved, packed and maintained during a workshop held on ‘Food Safety Awareness’ here on Saturday.

Vijayawada: The students of SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala have had a deep insight into how food can be preserved, packed and maintained during a workshop held on ‘Food Safety Awareness’ here on Saturday.

The Department of Applied Nutrition and Microbiology organised the event under the UGC Minor Research Project on ‘Nutritive and Microbial Assay of Street Foods in Vijayawada’.

Students were educated about the food production, food packaging and safety before they got to know about how and what kind of food products can carry diseases.

Assistant Director at National Institute of Nutrition Dr K Bhaskarachary addressed the students on ‘Best practices for Safe Street Food’ while assistant professor at Acharya Nagarjuna University Dr B Baitha elaborated on ‘Practices for Prevention of Food Borne Diseases’.

Prof K Bhaskari spoke on ‘Food Sanitation Techniques’ and Dr S Subbalakshmi Devi from State Food Laboratory described about ‘Detection of Food Aulterants’.

Students have taken out a deep study on ‘Street Food in the City’ and presented their research results through PowerPoint, paper and poster presentations during the event. They displayed the food products and organised a food festival on the occasion. They indulged in other fun activities.

Principal of the college T Vijaya Lakshmi, Dr K N Varalakshmi and N Saritha from the department of Applied Nutrition and Microbiology among others were present.
