Visakhapatnam: Overall development of a State is possible through the port oriented developmental strategies, said Krishnapatnam Port Director and CEO Anil Yendluri here at GITAM University on Thursday while speaking on “Port Led Development of East Coast and the future Trends” organised by GITAM School of International Business at GITAM Campus.

He informed students that GDP growth of Western region is primarily due to the role played by the ports and Gujarat and Maharashtra are enjoying the fruits for many years. Now Andhra Pradesh is inching close to the growth of Maharashtra and will become second fastest growing state in the immediate future.

In a layman’s language one addition of truck on road will create 5 jobs, he added. He has dwelled upon important issues relating to this development of Visakhapatnam Chennai Industrial Corridor, Chennai Bangalore Industrial Corridor, and also development of the ambitious project “Sagarmala”.

While giving a overview on port sector, he informed that the ports in China individually can handle 30 million TEU’s, whereas entire Indian ports have the capacity to handle only 9 million TEU’s. He observed that China’s strategy of development is Sea based and Port based.

While sharing his views about the master plan for development of an integrated Krishnapatnam Port, Anil said the port has embarked upon three pronged approach. The North Port developed for Bulk commodities and Project cargo and the South Port is developed to handle LPG, Liquid Cargo and the West Port is primarily aimed at handling container cargo.
