Cites delay in shifting of headquarters from Hyderabad as the reason

Vijayawada: Several tourism projects failed to materialise in Amaravati capital region as the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is yet to shift its headquarters from Hyderabad. After the formation of Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), several tourism projects were also included in the master plan and the APTDC failed to ground any new project.

Sources in APTDC said that no new projects were sanctioned by the higher authorities in Vijayawada. The APTDC is yet to shift its headquarters from Hyderabad. It should be recalled that the officials have finalised a building in Governorpet some time back but the renovation works for the same are taking more time than anticipated which is leading to the delay in the shifting, which in turn is hampering the tourism development.

The State government has organised a national level tourism meet in Vijayawada city in the past to attract bidders to promote tourism in the new capital. Several entrepreneurs came forward to invest but they are yet to materialise. At present the APTDC is running cottages at Berm Park and Bhavani Island.

Though there was good patronage for boating to Bhavani Island the tourism officials are unable to take up development programmes as the State government is said to be planning to invite international bidders for development of the Bhavani Island as international tourism hub.

The APTDC has no buses at the island to take tourists to other destinations. APTDC divisional manager V V Ganga Raju said that they sent proposals for allotment of buses to operate to various tourism destinations. He said that the government is yet to issue a notification on the launching of tourism services from Vijayawada city.
