Kappatralla (Kurnool): District Collector Ch Vijaymohan and SP A K Ravikrishna stayed in this faction village in Devanakonda mandal for the night on Sunday as part of ‘Polam Bata’ and returned to Kurnool travelling on motorcycles at 6.30 am.

The Collector and the SP took up digging work for farm ponds in the field of Surendra, about 1.5 km from here. Both performed pooja in the field of farmer Papanna while launching work of a circulation tank personally driving an excavator.

Speaking at the spot, the Collector observed that there would be fruitful results besides, deriving pleasure, if officials stayed in villages, properly assessed people’s problems and made serious efforts to solve them. ‘Better results can be achieved if real situation in villages is assessed properly and serious efforts are made’.

He said farmers were coming forward to take up farm ponds and that there was a ‘need for encouraging them, showing the right path’.

Vijaymohan asked APMIP Project Director Devamuni to encourage farmers to take up drip and sprinkle irrigation in 1,000 acres and receive application from them as there were 385 people willing to take up the works in Kappatralla.

He said drought conditions could be overcome if drip irrigation facility was created in every village spread over 500 acres. The administration, the collector, stated was planning to provide opportunities to farmers, holding more than five acres, to opt for farm ponds.

There was a need for digging such ponds under the water shed scheme in 230 villages by farmers possessing more than five acres. He directed DWMA Project Director Pulla Reddy to prepare plans for digging 10,000 circulation tanks in the district and to take up construction of check dams after clearing dense foliage in the canal near Papanna’s field.

The SP stated that both had participated in the Polam Bata with a view to taking Kappatralla on the path of development. Among the officials present were RDO Obulesu, Panchayat Raj SE Surendranath and Devanakonda MPP Ramachandra Naidu.
