Rajahmundry: Sporting this year's slogan Indhan Ho Swachh, Jan-Gan Rahein Swasth (Use Clean Fuel — Be Healthy), Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight-2016 on T-shirts, ONGC Rajahmundry employees led by TS Rao, GGM-Head Engineering Services, (in-charge Asset Manager) undertook a energy walk from ONGC Dispensary, Prakash Nagar to ONGC Base Complex at Lalacheru here on Tuesday.

The walk was conducted as part of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight-2016. About 150 men and women employees participated in the walk.

Speaking on the occasion, Rao informed that the energy walk was organised to create awareness among the citizens of Rajahmundry about the conservation of fossil fuels, he reasoned.

“Currently the estimated oil and gas resources in India are only 0.5 per cent of the world's reserves, while the population of the nation is around 16 per cent. And these resources are likely to last only for next 50 years,” he said.

A proactive conservation approach if adopted, will enhance the duration of the availability of the hydrocarbons, he added. Careless and casual approach towards oil and gas usage by the consumers would deprive the future generations of the luxury of the present generations, he said.

It may lead to a scenario where the future generations have to see the oil and gas as artefacts in museums, he cautioned. The country is importing oil and gas by paying an export bill of Rs 4.5 lakh crore per annum. It is the social responsibility of every citizen to save and use these precious resources judiciously and lessen the burden on the national economic resources, he underlined.

During the fortnight energy conservation talks by experts, essay, poster and quiz competitions for children and employees, LPG clinics for housewives and free check-up for vehicles were conducted. A.B Biswas, DGM (Mechanical) coordinated the fortnight programmes.
