Indian Navy is seriously exploring the possibility of setting up an ocean thermal energy conversion plant (OTEC) that would provide power for its Andaman and Nicobar Islands base. Addressing the press conference here on Friday, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan said Navy would like to convert into green navy by using green fuel, taking inspiration from the US Navy.

Addressing the press conference here on Friday, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan said Navy would like to convert into green navy by using green fuel, taking inspiration from the US Navy.

It may be recalled here that a pilot project on 20 MW Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion project was set up at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Earlier, reports said Navy is involving French Company and two Indian firms Godrej and Kirloskar as suppliers. The Navy has reportedly conducted preliminary feasibility studies identifying two potential locations in proximity to Port Blair.
