Kurnool: Former Union minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy on Tuesday gave up his tough stand against the Congress high command as senior Congress functionaries made a beeline to Laddagiri. AICC general secretary Tirunavukkarasu, former minister Sailajanath, Anantapur DCC president Satyanarayana were among the senior Congress leaders who visited Laddagiri and persuaded him to relent.

It may be recalled that the Special Protection Group did not allow the senior Congress leader and his wife onto the dais at a public meeting addressed by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at Bandlapalle in Anantapur district. Feeling humiliated, Kotla has remained aloof since then from party activities in the district.

The purpose of Rahul Gandhi’s visit was to inspect the NREGS implementation. The list supplied to the SPG did not contain names of Suryaprakash Reddy and his wife and hence the elite security group did not allow him and his spouse to share the dais with Rahul Gandhi.

Following the incident, Suryaprakash Reddy’s followers went agog incensed at insult meted out to their leader and put the DCC office here under lock and key. They demanded the Congress high command to tender an unconditional apology for the insult heaped on Kotla and his spouse.

The DCC office, which remained locked for the past five days, was opened in the presence of Kotla with the intervention of senior Congress leaders. Later talking to media, Tirunavukkarasu recalled the yeoman services rendered by Kotla family to the party for the last 50 years and described the Bandlapalle incident as unfortunate.

He said measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future would be initiated. He exhorted Congress leaders and work unitedly to make Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister.
