Vijayawada: BC leader and Telugu Desam MLA from Telangana State, R Krishnaiah, here on Tuesday dared Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to include Kapus in the BCs list. Speaking at a meeting of the BC organisations, Krishnaiah said that the Telugu Desam had promised reservations for Kapus in the election manifesto.
He said that the party had also promised several things for the BCs in the manifesto and wanted the Chief Minister to implement them on priority. He said that the Supreme Court order had prevented the States from increasing the reservations beyond 50 per cent and wanted to know how Chandrababu Naidu intended to extend reservations for Kapus.
He said that the BCs would not remain silent if the government takes away their reservations to benefit the Kapus. He said that the BCs would hold protest if their share of reservations was given to the Kapus. Referring to the State government allocating Rs 1,000 crore for the Kapu Corporation, Krishnaiah regretted that the government had not given equal amount to other BC corporations.
“We welcome the government giving such a huge amount for the welfare of Kapus. But, we also want equal amount for all the corporations created for the BCs,” he asserted. Krishnaiah said that reservations were given not on the basis of economic standards of the people, but their social backwardness. “We have several welfare programmes for the economic development of the people. But reservations are based on the social backwardness which has to be understood in that spirit,” he added.
Krishnaiah asked the government to take caste based census to redraft the reservation quota. He also felt that the new census would help in making financial allocations for the BC sub-plan on the lines of the SC sub-plan. He further said that the BCs were prepared for distribution of reservations based on the population ratio.
He said that they would hold a meeting with BCs at Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Eluru, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool shortly to bring all the backwards castes on to a common platform to protect the reservation benefits.
AP BC Welfare Association president K Shankara Rao, honorary president N Venkata Ramana, state general secretary P Venkata Mahesh, Krishna District President Paritala Koteswara Rao, BC Jana Sabha Organising committee member T Arjuna Rao and other leaders were present on the occasion.
