Dr G Venkata Ramana, though born in a village, Nandigam, in Terlam mandal of Vizianagaram district, has secured 25 academic degrees, including a PhD in Civil Engineering from JNTU-H to his credit with his passion towards ‘continuous learning’ and with an ambition to know something new.

Visakhapatnam: Dr G Venkata Ramana, though born in a village, Nandigam, in Terlam mandal of Vizianagaram district, has secured 25 academic degrees, including a PhD in Civil Engineering from JNTU-H to his credit with his passion towards ‘continuous learning’ and with an ambition to know something new.
His academic excellence has made him to work as Professor of Water Resources Engineering and Coordinator of Home Grown Post-Graduate Programmes in African countries on behalf of Ministry of Education, Ethiopia, a leading education hub in South Africa. To enhance the education facilities in rural areas of African countries, he is working to raise funds from European countries like Germany and UK.
Son of a teacher, Venkata Ramana, earlier was the Dean and Professor of Civil Engineering in Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology and his research interests are in the areas of integrated approach to Water Resources Management, Watershed Management, Rainwater Harvesting, Management of Lift Irrigation Schemes and Remote Sensing and GIS applications in Water Resources Management.
His enthusiasm for learning made him to get degrees in Astrology, Telugu, Sociology, Communication and Journalism, Political Science, English language and Teaching and TV Journalism, Tourism Management, Philosophy, Business Administration, Film Writing, Commerce, Yoga and Computer Applications.
He has not only published 36 research papers at National and International levels but also two candidates-C Venkateswara Rao and B Rajasekhar were pursuing research under his guidance at JNTU-H. Ramana has guided five students to get their M Tech degrees and Member, Board of Studies, Under Graduate (UG) and Post-Graduate Programmes in Civil Engineering.
Dr Venkata Ramana also authored a Civil Engineering textbook titled as ‘Water Resources Engineering’ and three Telugu poetry books-‘Chitapata Chinukulu’, ‘Kurise Chirujallu’ and Jala Jeevan Sravanthi. Apart from pursuing education in various fields, the multi-faceted man formed a voluntary organisation called Sahrudayala Foundation to help orphans, mentally retarded and senior citizens.
When The Hans India asked him what inspired him to delve into variety of subjects, the soft-spoken man said he always believed in education as it is the only force to empower all sections of people. About his future plans, he said ‘We have to learn and learn more in life through education to help increase sincerity, commitment and honesty’.
