Penugonda: The tenant farmers besieged Andhra Bank and locked its main door at Sidhantham village in Penugonda mandal on Friday, in protest against the notices served by the bank for loan repayment.

The tenant farmers undertook a rally and reached Andhra Bank at Sidhantham led by Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythula Sangham (APKRS). The tenant farmers locked the bank’s main door and squatted in front of the bank. Later, they burnt the notices served by the bank and raised slogans against the bank.

Addressing the farmers, APKRS district committee general secretary K Srinivas said that the Andhra Bank served notices on the tenant farmers to repay the loans. He alleged that the bank has not waived the loans of tenant farmers and Rythu Mithra groups despite Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s directions to the banks. He demanded cancellation of notices served on the Rythu Mithra groups at Ramannapalem and Pithanivaripalem villages.

CPM Penugonda mandal secretary S Venkateswara Rao and APKRS mandal committee secretary Meka Narayana Rao spoke to the farmers. APKRS leaders Peccetti Peddiraju, G Rambabu, B Eswara Prasad, E Srinivasa Rao, Gandrotu Adinarayana and Ketha Satyanarayana led the agitation.
