Kakinada: The annual budget for East Godavari Zilla Parishad was cleared for Rs 15.9 crore with a surplus of Rs 40 lakh at the general body meet organised here on Wednesday.

Presenting the budget, ZP Chairman Namana Rambabu gave a detailed account of income expected from various sources. This includes Rs 10 crore in the form of stamp duty, seigniorage cess Rs 1.6 crore, Rs 2.3 crore on sand auctions, Rs 40 lakh income on ferrys, Rs 47 lakh through other sources.

The ZP Chairman mentioned that Rs 1 crore is being sanctioned for payment of pensions to retired staff. He also made it clear that efforts are being made to get Rs 50 crore towards seigniorage and allocation to the tune of Rs 35 crore from 14th Finance Commission.

The ZP Chairperson clarified that including income through other sources the proposed budget was estimated at Rs 54.94 crore and expenditure at Rs 54.54core with surplus budget of Rs 40 lakh.

He revealed that amount to the tune of Rs 56 crore has to be released by government under various accounts and they are making efforts to get the funds released at the earliest.

Amidst protests by several elected representatives including MLAs, the house resolved to initiate action on irrigation department officials for not attending the meeting to clarify on irrigation water supply for second crop.

District Collector H Arun Kumar, Joint Collector S Satyanarayana, ZP CEO K Padma apart from ZPTC members, Mandal Parishad presidents and officials of various departments attended.
