Vijayawada: The Left parties here on Sunday organised a ‘padyatra’, demanding that Telugu Desam Government withdraw its moves in evacuating houses at Bhavanipuram area.

CPI Krishna district secretary Akkineni Vanja flagged off the ‘padyatra’. She called upon the people to extend their support in making ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest a success. “The protest is being organized against the TDP Government and its failure in resolving the housing problem in the State,” she said.

Vanaja came down heavily on the Telugu Desam Government for its ‘inefficiency’ in providing alternate housing facility for the people residing on canal bunds. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who promised of providing houses to the poor had conveniently ignored it. Instead, he was issuing orders to demolish the houses in the name of beautification and urbanization, she alleged.

At least now, the TDP Government should construct houses and provide registration facility for hill slope residents to protect their interests, she demanded. CPM city secretary Donepudi Kasinath, leader UV Rama Raju, CPI city assistant secretary G Koteswara Rao and others also took part in the ‘padyatra’.
