Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishnamurthy on Sunday said that the TDP government was according top priority to the economic development of Backward Classes in the State. Speaking at `Chandranna BC Swayam Upadhi Runa Mela’ held here on Sunday, he said that Rs 8,832 crore was allocated for BC welfare in the State Budget for 2016-17 as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was committed to their all-round development.

Says efforts being made to roll out a sub-plan on the lines of SC, ST Sub-Plan for the benefit of the community

Efforts are being made to formulate the BC Sub-Plan on the lines of SC, ST Sub-Plan for the economic uplift of Backward Classes. A proposal was made to construct a BC Bhavan in five acres of land in Kurnool, which would be named after Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, he said.

Highlighting the development schemes being implemented by the TDP government, the Deputy Chief Minister urged BCs to properly utilise them for their economic advancement. Minister for BC Welfare Kollu Ravindra said Rs 69 crore was released for the third phase of BC Swayam Upadhi Runa Mela.

Loans were sanctioned for 3,848 BC beneficiaries under various development schemes during the current fiscal. BC Bhavans at a cost of Rs 5 crore would be constructed in all the districts. Focus would be laid on effective implementation of BC welfare schemes, he said. District Collector Ch Vijaya Mohan said steps were taken to sanction loans for all eligible BC beneficiaries for setting up of small business units.

Emphasis was laid on grounding of units sanctioned for BC beneficiaries by promoting coordination among bankers and officials of the departments concerned. More employment opportunities would be provided to BC youth by giving them vocational training in various trades, he said.
