Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said that the government is pulling out all stops to boost chilli exports in a bid to attract a better price. Addressing an awareness programme on chilli exports with farmers at ZP Office, in Guntur on Sunday the Minister said that the government will extend helping hand to produce quality chilli crop to increase exports. 

Amaravati: Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said that the government is pulling out all stops to boost chilli exports in a bid to attract a better price. Addressing an awareness programme on chilli exports with farmers at ZP Office, in Guntur on Sunday the Minister said that the government will extend helping hand to produce quality chilli crop to increase exports.

Pulla Rao said that the government will make necessary arrangements with chilli exporters to guide farmers to produce good quality chillies, which will be purchased at a price higher than that of market rate. “Due to the presence of pesticide residues; Germany, USA and European countries are rejecting our exports,” he added and urged agricultural scientists to advise farmers on producing crop that meet global standards.

Asserting that the government will set up 10,000 farmer producer organisations (FPOs), the Minister said that they will provide subsidy for purchasing agri- machines. Deputy Director of Spices Board Dr P S S Thampi said that the board will extend helping hand to increase chilli exports. “The government was collecting the data of farmers and would upload the same to a website for the benefit of exporters, who can contact the farmers directly to buy the stock,” he added.

Deputy Director of Horticulture department K Jayachandra Reddy urged the farmers to use modern technology to get more yield and explained steps taken by the department to boost chilli exports. Nabard AGM Dr Bhavani Prasad, Lam Farm chilli scientist Dr Vishnu Vardhan, chilli exporters and farmers took part.
