Auto driver who fled with gold jewellery held
Guntur police arrested an auto driver accused in a theft case and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh from his possession in Guntur on Friday.
Amaravati: Guntur police arrested an auto driver accused in a theft case and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh from his possession in Guntur on Friday.
According to police, Matta Sirisha of Guntur went to a marriage at her relatives’ house in Vinukonda town and returned to the city.
After alighting from the bus, she hired an auto and after reaching her house, she gave the fare to the auto driver and when she was about to pick up her suitcase, all of sudden, auto driver Kavvala Venkateswarulu sped away leaving the hapless woman in the lurch.
Immediately, she lodged a complaint in Nallapadu police station on March 23, 2016. Based on the CCTV footage, the police registered a case. In investigation, police found auto driver Kavvala Venakateswarulu’s name on the backside of the autorickshaw.
Circle Inspector Purnachandra Rao arrested the accused in the city and recovered Rs 4 lakh worth gold ornaments from his possession.
