Jammalamadugu(Kadapa): To address the drinking water problem in Jammalamadugu Assembly constituency, RWS Divisional Engineer Saraswathi said proposals were sent to the government with Rs 75 lakh budget for the same.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, she said five mandals including Mylavaram, Peddamudiyam, Jammalamadugu, Muddanur and Kondapur, under Jammaladugu constituency, would reel under drinking water scarcity every summer.

In wake of that, she said necessary measures were taken to supply drinking water through tankers, by laying new pipelines and by setting up of filter points in the villages of said mandals. She said already some works were started in some areas and the works would commence in remaining areas in another week. “Five works have already started in Mylavaram mandal with Rs 15 lakh estimation, two works at Jammalamadugu mandal with Rs 7 lakh and two more works in Kondapuram mandal with Rs 5. 5 lakh budget,” she explained.

Saraswathi said there are 640 hand pumps in five mandals, out of which only 110 are working, and said the proposals were sent for Rs 27.5 lakh from MPLADS to get ready the hand pumps. ‘We have sent proposals for Rs 47 lakh from Zilla Parishad funds for laying pipelines and also for tap connections,” she said. She assured villagers that measures were taken to supply drinking water in the drought-affected villages and said that they would leave no stone unturned to resolve the drinking water problem in the constituency this summer.
