He conducted the aerial survey to inspect ongoing works at left and right canal on Monday. Later, he also examined the Polavaram earth-cum-rock fill dam construction site.

Says that he will mobilise more funds from the Centre to speed up works

Speaking to newsmen at the project site, he said that his government would complete the project within two years to break the record of Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) works. He said he would welcome if the Centre came forward to take up the responsibility of constructing Polavaram, while reminding that it was announced as a national project.

On the issue of displaced families due to the project, he said the government would provide best rehabilitation and resettlement package to the affected persons. While appealing to Opposition parties not to create hurdles with to project, he said the government had thus far spent Rs 2,000 crore on the project.

“Within two years the Polavaram project diaphragm wall, spillway construction works will be completed in the first phase. A Japanese company would be roped in to carryout drilling works up to one crore cubic metres,” he added. To conserve the floodwater of 2,500 tmc ft of Godavari river water that flows into sea, he said it was decided to complete the first phase of project by December 2018.

Meanwhile, he hit back at Congress alleging that the party leaders were shedding crocodile tears and said they had neglected the development of State during their term in office. He accused them of hampering development in the State. Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao briefed about the progress of ongoing works to the Chief Minister. Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), Polavaram MLA Modium Srinivasa Rao, District Collector K Bhaskar and District SP Bhaskar Bhushan accompanied the Chief Minister.
