Rajamahendravaram: Rajamahendravaram Municipla Corporation (RMC) has approved budget estimates for the financial year 2016-17. In the budget meeting presided over by Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, the council on Thursday approved the budget with the suggestions and amendments made by the members. The closing balance of Rs 171.92 crore in revised budget estimates 2015-16 has been taken as opening balance in the budget estimates for the year 2016-17. In the budget estimate, the total receipts are shown for Rs 192.23 crore expected from various heads of accounts. The total expenditure is estimated for 348.15 crore and the closing balance is carried for 15.83 crore.

MLC from YSRCP Adireddi Appa Rao lamented that there was nothing new in the budget. By lauding the Municipal Commissioner for collecting property tax of Rs 24 crore on one side, he questioned the authorities on why did they fail to raise the budget estimations with regard to Vacant Land Tax, taxes on advertisements, market rents and shopping complex rentals.
He demanded for more allocations for facilities in municipal schools. He reminded to the council that Minister for Sports K Atchennaidu had assured sanction of Rs 25 lakh for the construction stadium if the proposals were sent. He asked the council to send the proposals. Rajamahendravaram City MLA Dr Akula Satyannarayana informed the council that Rs 634 crore funds are going to be sanctioned for the city under Amrut scheme. He also announced that he was making efforts to get Rs five crore for modernisation of slaughter house in the city. He stressed the need for multi-sewage treatment plants in the city as the contour levels are very different in the city.
Deputy Mayor Vasireddi Rambabu suggested for imposing of taxes on new buildings and apartments as soon as possible in order to obtain income and advocated for regularisation of unauthorised tap connections and fixing meters for apartments. He further suggested for open auction for shops in municipal complexes in order to get more income.
TDP floor leader Varre Srinivasa Rao faulted the municipal authorities for not collecting taxes from bigwigs and questioned as to why the outstanding tax to the tune of Rs 10 crore was not collected from IP-APPM.
