During the night time, the two-wheeler drivers and pedestrians are suffering a lot due to the attack of dogs. The dogs are chasing the two-wheelers creating panic to the drivers. Sometimes, accidents are taking place when drivers try to save themselves from the attacks.

Due to lack of proper facilities and funds, the VMC has stopped sterilisation of the dogs for the last three years. Earlier, the VMC staff depended on the veterinary hospital for the sterilisation. Due to various reasons, the veterinary hospital could not extend support to the VMC. In this backdrop, the VMC constructed its own Animal Birth Control Centre at the Excel Plant in Ajit Singh Nagar and will start activities in three months.

The civic body will spend Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 for sterilisation of each dog. It will take one week time to for the dog to recover. The VMC will provide food for seven days and treat the dogs till it recovers. The veterinary surgeon of VMC, Dr Z Srinivas, told ‘The Hans India’ that arrangements were being made to perform 600 sterilisations per month. Three individual chambers were provided in the Birth Control Centre to perform surgery and more chambers will be provided if necessary, said Dr Srinivas.

The VMC has stopped killing the dogs for 10 years due to agitation launched by animal rights activists and legal reasons. The VMC used to leave the stray dogs in Kondapalli forest area. But, the dogs returned to the city within four or five days as they habituated to living in the city. Finally, the civic body has decided to re-start sterilisation process to check the growing population of dogs in the city.
