Tirupati: Stating that efforts are on for a new alliance by May next year against TDP-BJP combine, former Congress MP Chintha Mohan said that people of the State are longing for new face, new voice and a new political alternative. He was speaking at a commemorative meeting held on the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s 109th birth anniversary celebrations here on Tuesday.

Mohan said that along with serving the party as a loyal and sincere Congress activist for its rejuvenation he will strive for the formation of a new political platform. He appealed to YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Jana Sena Party President and film star Pawan Kalyan to join Congress in the interests of poor, unemployed, farmers and women in the State.

“An action plan will be evolved from here in the pilgrim city of Tirupati to bring all the likeminded forces including CPI, CPM and other parties which are opposed to TDP-BJP, to bring them under one umbrella,” he averred. The Congress leader demanded the Centre to stop vindictive actions against Jaganmohan Reddy and also a CBI inquiry on the properties of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

The agony of unemployed in the State explicable while other sections including women and farmers are facing unbearable difficulties in the TDP-BJP rule, he said adding that the PHCs, government schools are in bad shape and the officials style of functioning adding more to the woes of the people.

Chandrababu Naidu has been accusing the opposition of stalling progress but it was he who in fact acting against development of Tirupati, he said citing the stopping of the development initiatives like Dugarajapatnam port, cancer hospital and construction of 7,008 houses to poor in the pilgrim city.

Paying rich tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram and Ambedkar, he said it was Jagjivan Ram, who was responsible for many labour welfare schemes including ESI and also resolving food grains shortage by improving production. The historic victory over Pakistan in the war in 1971 and creation of Bangladesh goes to Indira Gandhi and Jagjivan Ram, he said.
