Speaking on the occasion, he said there has been an overall decline in almost all kinds of crime, including road accidents, in the current year. He said white collar offences like cheating and counterfeit currency circulation have also reduced. Similar was the situation with regard to dowry harassment, molestation, eve teasing and other crimes coming under IPC, he added.
Expressing happiness over reduction in crime rate and improvement of law and order situation, the Deputy Chief Minister said that effective policing and pro-people programmes had helped bring down the crime rate effectively. Speaking to media persons at district police office, the Deputy Chief Minister advised police officials not to not to involve in civil matters.
He appreciated the police for using geo-tagging technology to track criminals and rowdy-sheeters. He said Rs 150 crore was granted for provision of drinking water to 2,000 villages in the State during summer. He said PD Act will be invoked against those involved in sand mafia. Chinarajappa said about 20,000 vacant posts in police department will be filled soon.
He maintained that an increased awareness had led to a rise in the number of cases booked for crime against women, particularly molestation. “The law and order situation in the State is under control. We request people to keep police informed about persons moving suspiciously and those resorting to extortions,” he added.
Journalist Associations’ joint action committee (JAC) representatives submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister and requested him to appoint a committee at district-level to prevent attacks on journalists. Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Dalit leader Babu Jagjivan Ram at Arasavalli junction here on his 109th birth anniversary and paid glowing tributes to the leader.
On this occasion, he said strict implementation of laws will go a long way in solving the problems of Dalits and weaker sections. TDP State president K Kala Venkata Rao, Labour Minister K Atchannaidu, ZP chairperson Ch Dhana laxmi and MLAs G Laxmidevi and B Ramana Murthy were also present.
Meanwhile, TDP senior leader and Palasa MLA G S S Sivaji staged a protest at Ambedkar auditorium by alleging that he was not invited for the birth anniversary celebrations of Babu Jagjivan Ram organised by the district officials.
