Chittoor: Residents are forced to stay indoors with day temperatures have been rising alarmingly in the city. The DMHO Dr Koteswari said that death toll rose to 22 as on Wednesday due to sunstroke. She said that they have been giving wide publicity on safety precautions to people.

The State government had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh for kin of sunstroke victims.
More children are being admitted in Government General Hospital here due to sunstroke. District Coordinator of Hospitals Dr Saralamma said that special wards have been allotted for sunstroke patients. She said that medical staff will provide round-the-clock treatment for sunstroke cases.
Despite instructions from the District Educational Officer (DEO), some private schools are conducting classes from 12 noon to 4 pm. As a result, several students are facing health issues.
Speaking to The Hans India, the DEO Nageswara Rao said that he had received complaints against the private educational institutions for conducting classes to students. He warned to cancel recognition of those schools, which are violating the Collector’s orders.
With rise in temperatures, there is heavy demand for drinking water in the city. It has become challenge for civic officials to tackle drinking water shortage.
More than 400 employees working at the Collectorate and government offices are finding it difficult to commute between Tirupati and Chittoor every day with severe heat wave conditions.
