Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers J P Nadda, M Venkaiah Naidu and Bandaru Dattatreya will be visiting the city on April 11 to inaugurate the long-pending Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).
Later, the Chief Minister and Union Ministers will attend the foundation stone laying ceremony for the ESI Hospital building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.
The dignitaries will also participate in the Mahatma Jyothirao Phule Jayanti celebrations to be held at Andhra University Convocation Hall before leaving
the city.
The District administration already began making elaborate arrangements for the series of official events. The VIMs inauguration was at last finalised after series of protests launched by the North Andhra Graduates Constituency MLC M V S Sarma along with the leaders of North Andhra Development Forum, CPM district wing and other voluntary organisations.
Sarma also raised the VIMS issue in the AP Legislative Council recently to which Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas assured of inaugurating VIMS on
April 11.
However, the CPM smelt a rat in opening only Outpatient wing and alleged that the TDP government
was planning to hand over half of the VIMS land to a corporate body by neglecting the interests of the north Andhra people. It demanded a white paper on the government’s future plan about the VIMS.
