Kukunuru (West Godavari): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that justice would be done to the displaced from the inundated mandals due to Polavaram project and promised employment opportunities to the tribals. Addressing a public meeting here on Wednesday, the CM said that the State government is committed to complete the Polavaram project at any cost. “It is the need of the hour to protect the water sources in the country. If, we preserve water, the future of the farmers would be better,” he remarked and asserted that the government will develop Kukunuru, Velairpadu mandals that would be indundated by the project.

Asserting that the Centre will release grants for the project, Naidu said that it is painful to leave home land. “I request the people to cooperate in the interest of country and State. The people of the State will never forget the sacrifice of those who gave lands to the project”, he added.

The CM assured that rural areas in the region will be developed in three years and will also have cement and BT roads. “Besides agriculture development, small industries will be developed to make the people economically stable,” he said. Naidu informed that 42 teacher posts in the mandal have been filled up through special district selection committee (DSC) apart from filling up 36 medical personnel posts.

“Revenue staff would also be recruited by April 20,” he added and announced pensions to 505 people in Kukunuru mandal. “We have sanctioned pensions to 43 lakh people in the State and if necessary, another two lakh people will be extended the benefit. A central kitchen will be set up in Kukunuru with a cost of Rs 4.5 crore to ensure nutritious diet to the students in the mandal. As many as 20,000 students will be benefitted,” he added.

He called upon farmers to dig farm ponds. Stating that the government would supply 50 units of power, free of cost to tribals, Naidu announced special residential schools for tribal children. The Chief Minister also announced new houses under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) to the 48 fire-accident victims in Venkatapuram village of Kukunuru mandal.

Ministers Peethala Sujatha, Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, Kamineni Srinivas, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Rajya Sabha MP Thota Sitaramalakshmi, MLAs Modium Srinivas, Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, Badeti Kota Ramarao (Bujji) and others were also present.
