Vijayawada: The 25th memorial lecture of Makineni Basavapunnaiah will be held at IV Palace here on Sunday, according to MB Vignan Kendram secretary P Murali Krishna. Talking to the newsmen here on Friday, Murali Krishna said Basavapunnaiah had played a pivotal role in the Communist movement in the country, and was instrumental in drafting the Communist policy.

He had played a key role in applying Marxism to changing social conditions in the country. Makineni had guided the activists during turbulent days after collapse of Soviet Union in 1990, in right direction, and proved that Marxist philosophy was the only solution to problems and challenges posed by capitalism, he said.

The secretary said that CPM Politburo member Prakash Karat will be the chief guest for the memorial lecture. A book authored by veteran leader Makineni Basavapunnaiah will be released by CPM Politburo BV Raghavulu on the occasion. The memorial lecture would commence from10.30 am on Sunday, he added.

Prajasakhti Book House editor K Usha Rani and MB Vignan Kendram convener KSC Bose were also present at the news conference.
